How to Market Your Virtual Assistant Business Effectively on a Low Budget?

I thought it appropriate to post an article on what I’m currently working on which is how to market and promote my virtual assistant business in the most cost effectively manner. As a new business owner my financial resources are not limitless so I need to be wise in my choices.

I was thinking of doing email newsletters to a small select group of individuals that might be prospective clients. I’m a little hesitant about this because I would not want to appear to be a spammer! I am also thinking of putting a little advertisement in a local newspaper to tap into the local market.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this or past experiences trying to market their new business that they could share.

  1. Email Marketing is an effective campaign, however purchasing lists that are clean and updated may be difficult if you do not find the right EMail Campaign. However, marketing your new VA business is something that you should do 24 hours, 7 days a week. There are a number of ways this can be done.

The first is to purchase or make some really good business cards and USE them everywhere. Your hairdresser, your husband’s barber, stop and hand them to small businesses near your home, such as tax preparers, insurance agents, real estate offices, etc. Be sure to always include your business and website in all of your communications.

Second, you are your best marketing campaign so practice your spiel.
If you were in an elevator with Donald Trump and you had exactly 20 seconds to introduce yourself and your business, what would you say?

Check out the SBA, there is probably a small business association setup in your county, or even your county’s chamber of commerce. Become a member, as they are a great source of referrals.

Finally, network. If you have children, PTA meetings can be a great networking opportunity. If you’re involved with the church, let your pastor or church official know of your business. Even donate a few hours per week or month,if your schedule permits. WOM (word of mouth) advertising is one of the most effective.

    Good Luck!!
